$400 Donated to CMDART Thanks to You!

We are happy to announce that we raised $400 for the Central MA Disaster Animal Response Team (CMDART) at our Howl-o-Ween Festival a few weeks ago! Thank you to everyone who entered the raffle and participated in all the doggie activities! Your entry fees were donated directly to CMDART. Woof!

What is a DART?
In case you were unable to stop by the CMDART booth, a DART team is part of the call-down list for the emergency management agencies when a disaster strikes. If animals are affected by fire, tornado, hurricane, or flooding, for example, emergency managers call on state or local authorities to get people in place to assist with evacuation, shelter, and care of the affected animals.

Those people then call DART teams into service and their members meet and coordinate with other teams to assist in disaster recovery services. Tasks can include transportation of supplies, setting up a temporary shelter, assembling crates, interviewing owners, photographing the animals, and feeding and exercising the animals.

Gemini Dogs is currently listed as an evacuation site for Littleton and surrounding communities should people be forced to evacuate their homes and need a place for their pets.

Gemini Dogs DART Planned
We hope to form our own DART within the next year. If you are interested in joining, please visit the CMDART website and join them for now. Then once we are ready to form our team, you can transfer membership. In the meantime, you will have developed the necessary skills and obtained the required certifications you need to respond in a disaster.

After joining CMDART, you'll need to complete these two FEMA-sponsored online courses before being able to respond to any disaster:
Thank you once again for your generosity!
